Water Harvesting and Dormitories completed at the school
Thanks to the Rotary Clubs of Whitley Bay and Scunthorpe we have been able to virtually complete our water harvesting project. Not only will this provide water for the school and the village but doubles up as a dormitory for the P7 pupils. This means they can stay at school to study for their exams rather than making the often long walk home where they do not have electric light by which to study.
As you can see fro the pictures the fabric for the building is complete however we desperately need more funds to purchase bunk beds, paint and other furniture to to make the accomodation homely. At the moment the pupils are sleeoing on matresses on the floor.
Please help us with this worthwhile project by donating via the website or even better consider setting up a direct debit.
We have adopted a small school on the outskirts of the town, a particularly impoverished area where up to 50% of the children are H.I.V. positive. We have provided the school with resources to improve the fabric of the building, a water tank (which benefits the whole community), and support in the funding of teachers which means even if families are unable to pay their fees the school can continue to function. Members of the charity have also spent time in the school teaching and enriching the curriculum through play.
Since 2007 when we first began supporting the school there have been huge changes both to the fabric of the building and the achievements of the pupils as you can see from the pictures. The director of the school expresses his appreciation in the letter below.
